Special Olympics

Special Olympics would not be the success that it is without the help of its generous and committed volunteers. Volunteer figure skating coaches are needed to work with individual figure skaters to select music, choreograph programs, and challenge them to learn new and more difficult skills. Speed skating coaches are also needed to help athletes improve their technique (especially crossovers), time meets, and motivate the skaters. Volunteers are also needed to work with skaters who are learning the basics. Skaters of all levels are welcome to volunteer with Special Olympics! The athletes are age 8 and above with ISI levels 1-4 (possibly through pre-preliminary) and they will have 2 coaches each working with them in preparation for the local games.

Non-skaters can get help by helping with off-ice activities such as warm-ups, lacing boots, selecting costumes, and fundraising. Volunteering with Special Olympics is incredibly rewarding. The athletes delight in every small accomplishment and are thrilled that the volunteers take the time to work with them and become their friends. Please consider putting your skating skills to use by helping develop the talents of these special athletes.
